Bolt groups in shear connections are now the sum of each bolt's lesser of shear and bearing strength, for single plates, clip angles, tees, and end plates.

Conventional single plates are checked for flexural yielding and flexural rupture under every AISC edition.

Also in this version:

  • Clip angles and tees with slotted holes in only one ply: bolt bearing on each ply uses that ply's hole type, and the slot direction is taken relative to the force being checked
  • Clip angles with slotted holes are sized to the same vertical edge distance, including the slot increment C2, that they are checked against
  • Clip angles and shear end plates to a girder web with beam axial force: the girder web is checked by yield line analysis (AISC Manual Equation 9-45), with bolt spacing from the support bolts
  • Clip angle beam-side bolts are checked for the resultant of shear and axial force at every eccentricity
  • Column flange bending at beam clip angles: b is measured from the column web, (g - tw)/2, and the bolt shear stress uses the support bolts of both angles. Shear end plates use their total bolt count
  • For column flange bending, the suggested number of bolt rows reflects that the required thickness varies with the square root of the bolt force
  • The clip angle prying force check is shown for braces and beams under every AISC edition
  • Column flange bending and tee prying: required thickness uses Fu
  • Shear end plate welds with axial force use the directional strength increase on the weld metal, and the base metal is checked separately for tension and shear
  • When bolts are shared by connections on both sides, the report shows how the effective support thickness is shared. Common bolt rows are matched in metric units, and a tee to a girder on the right side uses the same rule as the left
  • Beam tensile yielding and rupture at the connection in a braced joint use the connection force, Ab ± (H - Hb), rather than the beam axial force beyond the gusset
  • Coped beam web block shear is checked with or without beam axial force
  • Bottom-only copes are not subject to the top cope length and depth limits. Top copes under the AISC 15th and 16th editions use the k1 and f (f ≤ 3) method, without the c ≤ 2d and dc ≤ d/2 limits
  • The smallest cope depth kept is the lesser of k_det and tf + 1/2 in.
  • A flange plate moment connection to a girder is offered whenever the beam and its bottom flange plate fit within the girder's flat web (d - k_det)
  • On flange plates to the beam, the transverse weld length is the lesser of the plate width and the beam flange width
  • For an HSS column with the web in plane and diaphragm plates, the side wall weld length is taken from the in-plane walls (Ht - 3t)
  • For HSS in A1085, the design thickness is the nominal thickness, and it is kept when the file is reopened or the size changes
  • With the number of doubler plates set to 0, no plate is sized, and the report states whether one is required
  • The Whitmore section stops at the gusset's free edges for every gusset, including extended single plates and a Distance from WP you enter
  • For V braces with the work point above the top flange, the gusset is sized on the brace side of the beam
  • In manual gusset sizing, the clipped corner solves the same whichever order the dimensions are set in, and a negative corner offset is set to 0
  • A single plate gusset to a column web (out of plane) uses the gusset's Lh for plate width, eccentricity, and the report. Gusset block shear tension area is measured from Lh, and conventional or extended configuration is decided from the gusset
  • Brace splice plate bolt count follows the rows and lines you enter
  • A W brace connected by the web only uses shear lag x̄ = Zy/A
  • Bolted angle braces with more than one gage line: net area deducts one hole per gage line, and that deduction is shown in the report
  • Channel brace net area deducts one hole per gage line, times 2 for a pair. Welded pairs use the area of both channels
  • Channel brace gusset bolt bearing is summed per bolt. Block shear uses the brace bolt holes, with one gusset between back-to-back channels
  • Gusset hole sizes follow the brace bolt when the bolt or hole type changes
  • The Export to Nerv button uses a quieter BETA tag
