Angle braces can now be welded to the gusset, with shear lag and weld checks written for the AISC edition you are using.

For AISC 360-16 and 360-22, an angle held by longitudinal welds only uses Table D3.1 Case 4. The heel weld and the toe weld are each checked at the size you enter, and a weld shorter than four times its size is counted at one quarter of its length (J2.2b).

A welded gusset is now checked at the column for combined axial force, shear, and moment, using AISC Manual Equation 9-1.

Also in this version:

  • Brace to gusset shear lag: U of at least 0.60 is required only under AISC 360-05. Under later editions, U need not be taken less than the gross area of the connected element divided by the member gross area
  • Weld sizes and lengths you enter for a brace are kept, and are cleared when the brace shape type changes
  • A welded channel brace uses two flange welds for a single channel and four for a pair
  • On a single K brace, the moment in the gusset-to-column weld is taken from the brace line to mid-length of the gusset edge, on either side
  • When you enter Vc, the beam-side moment Mb includes the shear transferred to the column, the same way it does when you enter Vb
  • On a single plate on a gusset, the vertical edge distance is measured from the plate to the gusset's free edge. With no beam on the gusset, both ends of the plate are free edges
  • For a single clip angle, the bolt gage is the gage on the outstanding leg. Support-bolt eccentricity includes half the web or gusset thickness, and that eccentricity is shown in the report
  • Shear strength of an uncoped beam web is the lesser of shear yielding and shear rupture
  • Welded clip angles with axial tension in the beam: tensile yielding of the beam and block shear of the web are checked under every AISC edition
  • A column stiffener-to-flange fillet weld is counted for strength only up to the force the stiffener can develop
  • The calculation report shows the W-shape shear lag x̄ and U limit, and the block shear Agv term, with the values used
  • Comments, highlights, bookmarks, and line overrides stay with the drawing when you open another file, and a comment is kept as you type it
  • If a drawing cannot be saved, the message names the file and the reason. An update waits until the drawing is saved
